Hamilton Lane launches tokenised private assets share class

Hamilton Lane has launched a tokenised share class to access its Global Private Assets Fund. 

The tokenised share class will be available through the Allfunds platform. Allfunds Blockchain will serve as the technology provider and Apex Group as transfer agent, a statement from the group said today. 

Juan Delgado, co-CEO at Hamilton Lane, said: “Further advancing our effort to broaden access to private markets through technology, the launch of this tokenised share class seeks to bring the diversification benefits of private markets to new and existing audiences in a cheaper, better and faster way.”  

He added that working with established partners like Allfunds Blockchain and Apex Group has enabled the group to deliver an efficient and scalable offering. 

BBVA Asset Management will be the first investor and initial exclusive distributor for institutional portfolios in the new tokenised share class. As initial investor under the agreement, it will receive an exclusive distribution period. 

The initiative is set to deliver operational efficiency across subscriptions, transfers and ongoing fund administration, as well as reducing friction and lowering costs in crossborder distribution, according to the group. 

Rubén Nieto, managing director at Allfunds Blockchain, noted how the project “showcases how blockchain can bring real, tangible efficiencies to the fund industry.
