FalconX launches $1bn institutional lending facility

FalconX has announced a $1 billion secured lending facility with Ethena, aimed at deploying capital from the assets backing USDe into overcollateralised institutional credit.

The facility, established through a special purpose vehicle, will connect Ethena’s crypto-native liquidity with institutional borrowing demand, supporting the flow of on-chain capital into global credit markets.

Under the arrangement, loans will be backed by collateral held with qualified custodians, with FalconX acting as originator, servicer and collateral manager.

For Ethena, the facility creates a new source of yield through secured institutional lending, extending beyond traditional crypto basis strategies. For borrowers, the financing is designed to support a range of use cases, including trading strategies, corporate treasury management and payment solutions.

“Institutional credit in the digital asset space is evolving rapidly, moving away from fragmented pools toward deeply integrated, secure capital structures,” said Craig Birchall, Head of Credit at FalconX.

Ethena founder Guy Young said secured institutional lending represents a significant opportunity for on-chain capital, arguing that the partnership could help establish on-chain dollars as a more permanent part of traditional finance.
