Standard Chartered has launched institutional custody support for RLUSD on the XRP Ledger.
It comes as banks and market infrastructure providers continue to expand digital asset services for institutional investors.
Waqar Chaudry, global head of digital assets, securities services, transaction services at Standard Chartered, said the partnership would help institutions use digital assets more confidently.
He said: “Institutional clients want to participate in digital asset markets without compromising on how their assets are safeguarded or how risk is managed.”
In an announcement on Monday (12 October), the bank said that eligible clients could now access custody for Ripple USD (RLUSD) through Standard Chartered’s DIFC branch in Dubai, which is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.
The move forms part of a wider collaboration between Standard Chartered, Ripple and LMAX Group aimed at increasing institutional adoption of RLUSD.
The organisations said they plan to make RLUSD eligible collateral for selected LMAX Group trading and collateral management services, subject to approvals and testing.
Under the proposed model, Standard Chartered would mirror the value of eligible collateral to LMAX Group without requiring RLUSD holdings to be transferred directly to a trading venue.
The companies said this could reduce operational risks associated with asset transfers while improving capital efficiency and counterparty risk management.
Luke Dorney, head of custody, digital assets at LMAX Group, said RLUSD had become an increasingly important component of institutional digital asset markets. He said the arrangement would give clients greater flexibility in how they deployed stablecoins across the firm’s marketplace.
Jack McDonald, senior vice-president of stablecoins at Ripple, said RLUSD had been designed for institutional use cases and would enable firms to access the benefits of regulated stablecoins while maintaining established custody standards.
The announcement comes as stablecoins continued to gain traction among financial institutions.
Standard Chartered has highlighted growing demand for stablecoins in payments, treasury management and tokenised asset markets, while industry data shows the global stablecoin market has expanded significantly during 2026.
Further details of the collateral integration are expected once implementation and regulatory processes are completed.
