Crypto leadership strengthens Lockton’s vision

Lockton, the world’s largest privately held insurance broker, has appointed a crypto-native as its UK head of professional and executive risk, signalling a significant strategic move.

Sarah Downey will lead strategic growth initiatives aimed at strengthening Lockton’s professional and executive risk practices globally. She will also oversee the team responsible for broking, risk advisory and claims support across all major financial and professional insurance lines.

Downey was previously part of LEAP, Lockton’s digital assets team and was a founding member of the Association for Women in Crypto, sponsored by Lockton.

The move signals a clear shift towards enhancing the company’s crypto-native verticals, as Downey brings extensive cryptocurrency expertise to Lockton’s strategic direction.

Recognised as a thought leader, Downey frequently speaks on industry panels and engages with policymakers on the evolving digital asset landscape.

Most recently, she addressed the changing role of digital assets from an insurance perspective, offering insights into the future of digital solutions within the insurance sector.

Lockton’s growing focus on both crypto and the broader digital assets space is evident, with Downey’s promotion following the company’s recent partnership with Stand with Crypto in the UK.

Downey also brings 20 years’ experience as a solicitor and broker to the role. Lockton said she represented “dedication to female empowerment in the digital asset industry”.
