Finastra has launched an AI-powered payments repair tool designed to reduce errors and speed processing.
It comes as banks face rising payment volumes and growing pressure to improve operational efficiency in real-time payments.
Barry Rodrigues, executive vice president of payments at Finastra, said the new capability will help banks handle increasing transaction volumes with fewer operational bottlenecks. “With Repair Recommendations, we’re empowering banks to upgrade their payment operations, reducing resolution times and minimising errors. As payment volumes increase, AI can help deliver immediate value by accelerating repairs, streamlining onboarding, and strengthening resilience,” he said.
Unveiled at Sibos 2026 in Miami, Repair Recommendations is a new feature within Finastra’s AI OperatorAssist platform. The tool analyses payment discrepancies, identifies root causes and provides scheme-aware recommendations to resolve exceptions across networks including Swift, Fedwire, SEPA, UPI and Nexus.
According to Finastra, the cloud-native capability is designed to reduce the manual effort required from payments operations teams, helping banks process higher transaction volumes while improving accuracy and consistency. The company said the technology can also reduce reliance on specialist expertise and accelerate the onboarding of new employees.
Robin LoGiudice, strategic advisor at Datos Insights, said manual processes remain a significant challenge for financial institutions. “Despite automation advances, payment teams still spend extensive time sourcing data and diagnosing exceptions, making operations costly and slow,” she said.
The solution will integrate with Finastra’s Global PAYplus and Payments To Go platforms, extending AI-driven support across the payments lifecycle. Finastra said recommendations are intended to support, rather than replace, human decision-making, with all actions requiring review and approval by operators.
The announcement reflects a wider trend across the financial services sector, where banks are increasingly deploying artificial intelligence to improve operational resilience and automate back-office functions. Industry investment in real-time payments infrastructure and cross-border transaction capabilities has accelerated as institutions seek to meet growing demand from businesses and consumers for faster and more seamless payment experiences.
Finastra, one of the world’s largest financial technology providers, said the launch forms part of its broader strategy to expand AI capabilities across its payments portfolio while maintaining governance and human oversight.
