Franklin Templeton offers intraday yields through platform

Franklin Templeton has launched a new intraday yield feature on its blockchain-integrated investment platform “Benji”.

The feature allows investors to earn returns on tokenised securities down to the second, even for partial-day holdings. The yield will be calculated and paid each calendar day even when trading is officially closed.

It means that an investor can own a tokenised security for part of the day, transfer it to another investor, and still earn yield for the period they were a shareholder.

In a media statement, Roger Bayston, head of digital assets at Franklin Templeton said the feature demonstrates how blockchain technology can improve modern day financial systems.

“We believe features that are possible due to the composability of the blockchain environment, like intraday yield, have the potential to become an industry standard,” he said.

“We’ve been investing in and building our own blockchain-based technologies since 2017, and this is one example of how we’re bringing the real, tangible advantages of blockchains to our global client base as well as to new partners and investors”

The Benji platform is Franklin Templeton’s proprietary blockchain-integrated stack, designed to facilitate trading, management, and administration of token-based investments.

It is available as a white label technology for banks or asset managers to tokenize securities, or through one of several tokenised money market funds for global institutional and retail use cases.
