SEC to drop Ripple case

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has announced that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will drop its appeal against the company.

Since 2020, Ripple had been under scrutiny by the regulator and was sued following accusations it was offering unregistered securities.

In a social media post on X, Garlinghouse said that its four-year legal battle has ended.

“This is it – the moment we’ve been waiting for,” said Garlinghouse.

“The SEC will drop its appeal – a resounding victory for Ripple, for crypto, every way you look at it.”

Garlinghouse also took to the stage at the Digital Asset Summit 2025 in New York to announce the news, where he admitted to delegates that it had been a “painful journey” but declared “I feel vindicated”.

Ripple is the company behind XRP, the third biggest crypto token by market value, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

“The future is bright. Let’s build.”

As of March 19, 2025, at 16:00 GMT, the SEC had not issued a press release or note about the action.
