Visa has launched the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP), a new enterprise platform designed for financial institutions, fintechs and other payment providers.
The platform gives these companies a single environment to mint, move and manage stablecoins directly with Visa.
The launch is built around Open USD (OUSD), a stablecoin recently introduced by Open Standard. It also includes a new Wallet-as-a-Service offering for on-chain wallet infrastructure.
Jack Forestell, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Visa, said most institutions already understand the potential of stablecoins, but that the real challenge lies in managing them operationally.
Visa’s move into stablecoin infrastructure signals growing institutional interest in digital payments.
VSP gives institutions dual-control approval for sensitive actions, where one person initiates a transfer and a separate authorised person must approve it.
This includes comprehensive audit logging, which is useful for compliance and record-keeping.
VSP connects directly into Visa’s existing network: settlement, treasury and currency tools institutions already use, so it doesn’t require separate new infrastructure.
This builds on Visa’s broader existing crypto strategy, including stablecoin settlement, stablecoin-linked cards and stablecoin money movement, with VSP integrating with all of this.
The platform is initially in beta with select clients and is not yet generally available.
