Western Union has launched Stablecard, a digital wallet and USDPT-backed Visa secured credit card designed to help consumers hold, transfer and spend US dollar value globally.
Developed with Rain, Stablecard allows users to store value in USDPT, a US dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana blockchain, and spend through a linked Visa card.
The service aims to make stablecoins more accessible for everyday financial use, enabling users to receive funds, protect against local currency volatility and spend at merchants where Visa is accepted.
Stablecard launches initially across 37 markets, with Western Union targeting expansion to more than 60 markets by the end of the year.
Through the Stablecard app, users can receive Western Union transfers directly into their USDPT wallet, send and receive funds to compatible digital asset wallets and exchanges, and add the card to digital wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Devin McGranahan, President and CEO of Western Union, said Stablecard represents the company’s next step in expanding access to global financial services by combining dollar-backed digital assets with its international payments network.
