Nethermind becomes CMTA member

The Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA) has announced blockchain engineering and security specialist Nethermind as its latest member, as efforts to establish trusted standards for tokenised capital markets continue to gather pace.

Nethermind, which provides blockchain engineering, research and security services to financial institutions and digital asset firms, joins the Swiss-based association after already contributing to several of its technical initiatives.

According to CMTA, the company played a role in the development of the FIX-CMTAT connector, designed to bridge traditional capital markets workflows with on-chain tokenisation infrastructure. Nethermind’s AuditAgent tool has also been used in pre-audit security analysis of CMTAT smart contracts.

The move reflects the growing convergence between traditional financial markets and digital assets, with institutions increasingly exploring how tokenisation can be applied to securities issuance, settlement and broader capital market processes.

CMTA has emerged as one of the key industry bodies focused on developing frameworks for tokenised financial instruments. Its Capital Market and Technology Association Token (CMTAT) standard is designed to support the compliant issuance and management of digital securities.

Both organisations said they would continue working together to advance open standards capable of underpinning institutional adoption of tokenised capital markets.

Commenting on the announcement, a spokesperson for Nethermind said: “Tokenised capital markets need shared standards and infrastructure that institutions can trust. That is why Nethermind has joined CMTA.

“We will contribute our engineering and security expertise to the standards shaping digital capital markets in Switzerland, across Europe, and globally.

“We build and secure the infrastructure behind institutional adoption.”

The membership comes as financial institutions move from experimentation towards implementation in digital assets and tokenisation. While the industry remains at an early stage, banks, asset managers and market infrastructure providers are increasingly focused on developing the technology, governance and interoperability standards required to support long-term growth.

For Nethermind, the move formally strengthens an existing relationship with CMTA while giving the company a direct role in the development of standards intended to support secure and scalable tokenised capital markets.

As tokenised bonds, funds and other financial instruments continue to gain traction, collaboration between technology providers, industry bodies and financial institutions is expected to play an important role in shaping the future of digital capital markets.
