Clearstream has unveiled a next-generation digital securities infrastructure designed to support both traditional and tokenised securities markets.
The platform, developed by Deutsche Börse Group’s post-trade business, will create a digital-first and hybrid infrastructure through which market participants can hold traditional securities, digital securities and different forms of cash in a single portfolio.
“Clearstream is unveiling the next generation of financial market infrastructure and Europe’s first digital securities infrastructure serving clients globally,” said Stephanie Eckermann, member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Börse Group, responsible for Post-Trading and Clearstream’s chairwoman.
“We are proud to lead this transformation, connecting investors and issuers to bring investment flows where they are needed. With this step, we are re-shaping the post-trading landscape and creating the perfect infrastructure for both traditional and tokenized assets to equip the market for a future of digital finance.”
The launch marks a step in connecting existing capital markets infrastructure with blockchain-based securities markets, giving institutional clients access to digital assets, stablecoins and other securities tokens through one post-trade environment.
Subject to regulatory approval, the infrastructure will launch in stages across 2026 and 2027. It is expected to cover the full securities lifecycle, including issuance, distribution, settlement, custody, asset servicing, liquidity and financing.
According to Clearstream, the infrastructure will serve clients across both traditional and digital financial markets, regardless of the technology, asset type or money type involved. It will cover assets regulated under the EU’s MiFID and MiCA frameworks.
Clearstream is developing the platform with market partners and clients, with planned use cases including large-scale securities tokenisation, settlement directly on blockchain and the reuse of the same assets as collateral across multiple transactions.
The initiative builds on Clearstream’s existing digital market infrastructure, including its D7 platform, MiCA-compliant crypto custody, digital financing services and automated investor communication tools.
