Team & company: Cartwright Investment Team
Finalist: Investment Consultancy of the Year
How does it feel to be shortlisted for the Capital Pioneer Awards 2026?
It feels brilliant. We’re really proud to be shortlisted because a huge amount of work has gone on behind the scenes over the last few years, and a lot of that has meant being willing to do something different to the rest of the industry. It’s great to see that recognised.
What does this recognition mean to your organisation?
It means a great deal because it reflects a lot of hard work, a lot of belief in what we’re doing, and a willingness to keep going even when the easier option would have been to stay closer to the industry norm.
What part of your work/campaign are you most proud of?
Probably the bravery to do something different, and then the hard work to back that up properly. It’s one thing to have a fresh idea, but another to do the research, education and detailed work needed to turn it into something clients can genuinely trust and act on
What was the biggest challenge you faced and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was helping people get comfortable with something that was new and, in some cases, outside what the industry would normally see as familiar ground. We overcame that by doing a lot of careful work on the education side, being rigorous on due diligence and governance, and making sure clients felt supported and informed at every stage rather than rushed into anything.
How do you see the industry evolving in the next few years?
I think the industry will become more willing to question some of its long-held assumptions, which is no bad thing. Clients still want good judgement and strong governance, but they also want advisers who are prepared to think independently and not just repeat what everyone else is saying. The firms that will stand out will be the ones that can bring fresh thinking while still giving clients real confidence in how ideas are assessed and delivered.
If you could give one piece of advice to others entering these awards in the future, what would it be?
Don’t let the tail wag the dog. Focus on doing something genuinely worthwhile and ground-breaking that adds real value to your clients and to society more broadly. If you do that well, the recognition should follow.
How do you celebrate success?
Usually by taking a moment to actually stop and recognise it, because most good work is a long game and it’s easy to move straight on to the next thing. We try to make sure we acknowledge the people behind it, enjoy the moment a bit, and then get back to it.
