CME expands crypto futures with BCH, UNI launch

FalconX and GSR executed the first block trade in CME Group’s Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures.

Giovanni Vicioso, global head of cryptocurrency products at CME Group, said the new contracts would give investors greater flexibility to manage digital asset risk. “With trading now underway in our Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures, we are providing clients with more versatility to manage cryptocurrency risk and exposure through our robust 24/7 marketplace,” he said.

The launch extends CME’s single-asset cryptocurrency futures suite, which already includes contracts tied to Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui.

Griffin Sears, head of derivatives at FalconX, said demand was broadening beyond the largest cryptocurrencies towards tokens with more specialised use cases.

“Bringing these assets onto a regulated venue like CME Group gives institutions the hedging and capital-efficient exposure they’ve been asking for,” he added.

The inaugural block trade was executed by digital asset prime broker FalconX and crypto market maker GSR, two firms that have become active participants in institutional crypto derivatives markets.

Xin Song, chief executive at GSR, said expanding institutional-grade derivatives would help accelerate adoption of digital assets among professional investors.

“We have long believed that expanding institutional-grade derivatives will supercharge institutional adoption of digital assets,” he said.

The launch comes amid sustained growth in CME’s cryptocurrency business. The exchange said its crypto futures and options products generated average daily volume of more than 242,000 contracts worth $7.9bn in notional value so far this year, with average open interest approaching 240,000 contracts.

The company said its expansion into Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures has contributed nearly $2bn in additional notional value growth during 2026.

Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap futures are now available for trading on CME’s cryptocurrency marketplace.
